Hi all, it’s Dr. Silva! I started here at Old Greenwich Dental Associates in July of 2015. I was recommended to this dental office by the director of the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine, where I studied. Last August, about a month into my new job, I went on maternity leave, then I came back in January.
My job is general dentistry. I like to focus on cosmetic dentistry, though, and I like to correct any dental issues while making sure patients feel comfortable and ready to receive great dental treatment.
My history with dentistry began when I was very young. I started my first job as a dental assistant at age 16, and it really was like love at first sight. Throughout my high school and college years, I continued to pursue dentistry as a dental assistant. After hours or on school breaks, I would learn from various great dentists about how beautiful general dentistry can be.
Dentistry is an art — a profession that can be truly satisfying — when patients are comfortable, happy with the treatment, and given a great smile. From the beginning, I wanted to be like the dentists, not just an assistant. I wanted to grow in the field, so I pursued general dentistry.
I’m so glad to have reached this point and ended up at Old Greenwich Dental Associates. I’ve worked at various dental offices throughout my assisting career, and I can tell you, after living in D.C., it’s just fantastic here. Dr. Busch has created a happy, comfortable environment for the employees and the doctors — and when we’re happy, we make the patients happy too!
My favorite part of the job is having a patient in the chair whom I can make comfortable, even if they’ve had a bad experience with a dentist sometime in the past. I also like it when I’m able to take a patient who’s embarrassed about their smile and give them a brand-new smile. That’s the best thing I can do for a patient, and it’s a satisfying accomplishment for me.
There’s one other thing I wanted to mention about Old Greenwich Dental Associates that’s great: We always have the most advanced materials and the latest procedures in dental care. I know I can go to work every day and provide the best possible service to patients because of these resources, and it makes working at Old Greenwich a real pleasure.
Outside of work, I’m very much in love with my husband of three years and our 10-month-old baby. You know our son doesn’t fall far from the tree, because he loves to get his teeth cleaned! Before the baby, my husband and I liked to travel. We saw Greece, Switzerland, Spain, the Caribbean, and many countries in South America as well. It’s not as easy to get away with the baby, but I’m sure we’ll do it again someday. We both like to play tennis as well, and my husband likes to play golf. Some of my other hobbies include cooking, gardening, and painting, but my absolute favorite is pottery. In fact, I often tell people that I’m basically doing pottery at work. In one case, there was a fracture on the front tooth, and I was able to build it back up from scratch to the point where it’s not even noticeable. The patient even said, “Wow, it looks like nothing even happened here!” I’m so proud that I can create a new smile, and that I can make our patients happy. Thank you!
