What is a Dental Bridge?

Simply put, a dental bridge is a permanent dental restoration that can replace your lost tooth or teeth. You may be surprised to learn, though, that dental bridges come with numerous benefits beyond filling a missing tooth gap and improving your smile’s aesthetic appearance. For example, a dental bridge can restore your chewing and speaking ability. It can also prevent your other teeth from drifting out of position. Dental bridges can even help to maintain your overall facial shape!

As with almost all dental restorations, there are many types of dental bridges that you can choose from, and our Old Greenwich dentist can help you make the best choice. The most traditional bridge, which consists of porcelain fused to metal, is also the most popular, mainly because porcelain resembles your natural tooth color. With this type of dental bridge, two dental crowns are placed over two anchoring (abutment) teeth, and these dental crowns are then attached to your new artificial tooth or teeth (pontics). In this way, the gap created by a missing tooth or by missing teeth is filling in with natural-looking new teeth. Fixed dental bridges can last for several years before needing to be replaced or re-cemented.

How Do Your Old Greenwich Dentists Place a Fixed Dental Bridge?

Getting a fixed dental bridge usually requires two or more visits. During your first visit, our Old Greenwich dentist will numb your teeth and then prepare the anchoring (abutment) teeth on each side of the gap by removing a portion of enamel. This will create room on each tooth for a dental crown. Next, we will make a highly accurate impression (or mold) of your teeth, which will be sent to a dental laboratory for help in creating your permanent dental bridge. Finally, we will provide you with a temporary dental bridge, which you will wear to help protect your teeth and smile while you wait for your final, permanent bridge to be created.

Several weeks later, you will return for your next visit to receive your new permanent bridge. Your dentist will carefully check, adjust, and cement your dental bridge to ensure it has a proper fit. Occasionally, a patient’s bridge will be attached with temporary cement only, allowing extra time for the teeth and tissue to get used to the new dental bridge. If this happens, we will have you schedule a third appointment for your new dental bridge to be permanently cemented at a later date.

I strongly recommend OG Dental for those looking for a new dentist or looking to switch. The front desk ladies were very welcoming, knowledgeable and helpful with scheduling and finances. My hygienist, Leah, and Dr. Busch were both great at educating me in the procedures/treatment plan I need to have done and the reasons why. I hadn't been to the dentist in years and the quality of care and attention was excellent! This office is beautiful, modern and also family friendly!

Everyone is amazing and friendly! Dr. Busch is a normal down to earth guy. The front desk team is always on their game. Danielle is the best hygienist going. So happy I found this group.

I have never been to a dental or medical office that was so welcoming and efficient my first visit went with ease. The receptionist knew who I was upon my entering the greeted me with the biggest smiles which was a great start. I then went on to meet the hygienist Kate who cleaned my teeth like never before she was very knowledgeable and made sure I was comfortable every step of the way, she then called the doctor in who was a really cool dude he spoke to me in dental language I can understand made sure before leaving I understood everything we discussed. I do need a few more visits, but I plan on now switching the rest of my family. Thank you Dr. Busch and Staff

It is rare to find a dentist who has excellent credentials, state of the art knowledge and equipment, and a responsive and caring staff. Dr. Busch and his support team accomplish this in an exemplary fashion. His care has been excellent in all ways. I would highly recommend his practice to anyone with dental issues.
