Fun Smile Facts!

Dr. Greg Busch and his skilled team at Old Greenwich Dental Center have a few fun smile facts to share with you! How many of these did you already know?

Teeth vs. Hair

According to a survey from Roper ASW and ReachMax, 83% of people believe their teeth are the most important aspect of their facial appearance — far more important than their hair or eyes. However, US consumers spend twice as much on hair care products ($100 billion each year) than they do on their dental care ($50 billion)! If you’re like the average person in the US who wants a striking smile, consider moving some of that hair care budget into your dental care.

Teeth vs. Eyes

When it comes to their eyes, people seem more willing to prioritize their dental spending. According to Money Magazine, smile-enhancing dental procedures tend to outnumber eyelid surgeries 5-to-1. Now that’s a ratio we can get behind!

Beware the Toothpick

Did you know that a toothpick is the object that most Americans choke on every year? Toothpicks may seem like a great way to clean between your teeth, but our Old Greenwich, CT, dental office recommends that you use floss instead. The average person only purchases 54 feet of floss each year. When you use one foot of floss each day, that translates to less than 2 months of flossing! Don’t forget about those other 10 months!

Time Your Toothbrush

45-70 seconds is the amount of time most people brush a day – that’s less than a minute each day, or 30 seconds per brushing if you use your toothbrush twice a day. You Old Greenwich, CT, dentist recommends that you brush for two solid minutes each time – or four minutes total a day. Your smile will thank you!

Don’t Forget to Smile!

How much do you pay attention to your day-to-day smiling activity? While the average woman smiles about 62 times every day, the average man only smiles 8 times! And while kids laugh up to 400 times a day, adults only tend to laugh about 15 times.

Some Final Advice…

You may have heard the saying, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” In other words, making small changes to your daily habits can save you a world of headache (or toothache!) further down the road. In addition to paying special attention to your brushing and flossing regimen, our Old Greenwich, CT, dental office would like to remind you to work on limiting your daily sugar intake, which can add to tooth decay and gum disease. A healthy set of teeth and gums will give you the best reason to smile!

I strongly recommend OG Dental for those looking for a new dentist or looking to switch. The front desk ladies were very welcoming, knowledgeable and helpful with scheduling and finances. My hygienist, Leah, and Dr. Busch were both great at educating me in the procedures/treatment plan I need to have done and the reasons why. I hadn't been to the dentist in years and the quality of care and attention was excellent! This office is beautiful, modern and also family friendly!

Everyone is amazing and friendly! Dr. Busch is a normal down to earth guy. The front desk team is always on their game. Danielle is the best hygienist going. So happy I found this group.

I've been a patient of OGDA since 1988 and have been very pleased with the care I've gotten. The professionals and staff are all totally dedicated to the dental and overall health of their patients.

I have never been to a dental or medical office that was so welcoming and efficient my first visit went with ease. The receptionist knew who I was upon my entering the greeted me with the biggest smiles which was a great start. I then went on to meet the hygienist Kate who cleaned my teeth like never before she was very knowledgeable and made sure I was comfortable every step of the way, she then called the doctor in who was a really cool dude he spoke to me in dental language I can understand made sure before leaving I understood everything we discussed. I do need a few more visits, but I plan on now switching the rest of my family. Thank you Dr. Busch and Staff

It is rare to find a dentist who has excellent credentials, state of the art knowledge and equipment, and a responsive and caring staff. Dr. Busch and his support team accomplish this in an exemplary fashion. His care has been excellent in all ways. I would highly recommend his practice to anyone with dental issues.
